Episode IX
Episode 9: Assault and Battery. The second full page spread is very similar to the first. This is partly because the first was so well received and partly because Nana’s therapy called for at least three massive (72 hour) infusions of chemotherapy to kill the cancer before a bone marrow transplant could take place. Tim believed that this was a good way to show that infusion.
To make this panel slightly different, however, Tim changed the angle of attack, and hence the reader’s point of view. He also threw in a "take off" on the Energizer Bunny commercials by naming Chemo’s big guns, "Chemogizers©" and naming the episode "Assault and Battery. To avoid copyright infringements, Tim made the bunny beat on a "germ-man" instead of a drum and named the guns "Chemogizers©" instead of using the copyrighted "Energizer©" name. We still had some concerns, but were told not to worry because the comic was created for family use and enjoyment, not for commercial profit and Tim’s image was simply a parody.
Take a look at the "Chemogizer©" guns and read the serial numbers on the barrels. The "X-2-l5-28" is the birth date of Nana and Lorraine!
