Episode XII

Episode 12: Pros and Cons. The bone marrow transplant is taking place. Rad© is gone and Chemo© is leaving to "take care of a little plumbing problem" (a reference to my dad’s prostate cancer surgery that took place at about this time). Having donated the marrow as Lorraine, Auntie-Body© now returns inside the patient to assess the damage from all the chemo therapy.

In one of the arteries, she encounters the progenitors. These dwarves represent the progenitor cells in the transplanted bone marrow. The progenitor cells create the white blood cells, the red blood cells, and, finally, the platelets. The head "Pro" is named Oscar after Nana’s oncologist, Dr. Oscar Ballester.

This is the second two-part episode in the series. The second sheet, however, is not just one big scene, but includes an "inset" that helps explain the transition. The faces in this episode are the most creative and expressive to date. Also, the progenitors and endolphins© seem to "float" down the artery, singing a parody of a song from "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs©."
